By Thomas Leturgey It’s all about the movie-making experience for Xander Goldman. The veteran Independent Horror movie producer and actor has extended his most recent crowdfunding campaign to allow time for more to participate in “Crimzon Harvest.” As of September 9, the movie’s Indiegogo campaign has 155 backers to the tune of $32,224 with a “stretch goal” of $35,000. Two years ago, he fully funded another campaign for “Macabre Mountain” a well-done horror film Goldman starred in along with independent horror movie icon Felissa Rose, Denny Nolan, Robert Allen Mukes, Stephanie Swift and others. Crimzon Harvest | Indiegogo Rose is set to return to “Crimzon.” Goldman calls her a “vital part of these movies.” This new movie will provide actors “who don’t have a film reel, and can’t audition 100’s of times,” the chance to be in a stylish thriller. Through crowdfunding perks, aspiring thespians can act with the likes of Rose and Goldman. That’s meaningful for those who love and ap

A Gal Named “Jerome” Is Cinema’s Premier Reviewer

Jerome Weiselberry's YouTube page. By Thomas Leturgey Ten years ago, a brunette started calling herself “Jerome Weiselberry” and started reviewing books and movies for friends’ amusement on YouTube. Since that time, “Jerome” has become a sensation for more than 16,7000 subscribers. But first, “Jerome.” It’s a random selection, she explains. We know very little about the young lady’s personal life, except she remains quite close to her parents and siblings. Her mother is a frequent film partner, while her father will accompany her to see a Godzilla movie in the theater. And in an era where random, niche “celebrities” force one to Google their name when scandal hits, Jerome’s anonymity is the freshest of air. Her's is a movie and book “film club” between small town friends. She’s created some 600 videos over that time and accumulated a staggering amount of “cumulative views” of weekly videos that started out with girl-centric book reviews, (see Jane Eyre). However, her

By Thomas Leturgey On Saturday, June 22 I took part (a very small part) in an upcoming horror film by veteran director Mike Goodreau. He’s made some 40 movies, dating back to 8-millimeter days. This will be “Terror on Tour” and should have a run time of about 1:40. Goodreau (on vacation from his Rhode Island job as a teacher) says a trailer could be out in a week and the finished product could be out in August. [Fun fact: most, if not all, of Goodreau’s works may share a “universe” with the British Spy “Ethan Carver” being mentioned in a vast number of scripts .] Below is a trailer for one of Goodreau's previous films that mention Carver. I had the great chance to act with Xander Goldman, an actor and producer. He had produced and starred in “Macabre Mountain.” I could tell because he wore a T-shirt with the title. Upon our introduction and quick run through of the four-page dialogue, he said, “Do you have a DVD player?” “Of course,” I replied. “I have something for you.” He ga

Allegheny County At Large Write-In Votes Tell Interesting Story

Image
Days before the last General Election in Allegheny County, County Council At-Large Democratic candidate Bethany Hallam retweeted a message on Twitter that offended many prospective voters, and some high-profile newsmakers called the incumbent out on the action. Days later, a resident of Squirrel Hill, David Knoll, announced that he was launching a write-in campaign as an answer to the controversy. The declaration received print and electronic media coverage. As expected, Hallam won her race, garnering some 203,394 votes. (Republican Sam DeMarco had just over 151,000. Allegheny County government, each major party has an “At Large” member, so even though the race looked like they were running against each other, they each ultimately have a seat at the table.) Only 41% of registered voters pulled a proverbial lever by going to the polls on November 7 th . But what about the write-in campaign? Unless one is in small-town American where teenagers become Mayor with 11 votes, results ar
